Earth Month is a time to raise awareness and encourage people and organizations to take action. Here at Compass Group HQ, we are taking action—whether through Waste Not 2.0, Stop Food Waste Day, or serving deliciously innovative plant-forward meals.
We already have taken steps to be more sustainable including:
• recycling plastic, glass and aluminum cans and bottles
• partnering with Crown Town Compost to compost our kitchen food waste which eventually gets used for projects around Mecklenburg County
• donating food to Feeding Charlotte in order to feed people with food insecurity in our local community
• recycling used fryer oil with RTI oil recycling who use it to make biodiesel which powers their company vehicles
• implemented bulk snack dispensers with a variety of tasty options to reduce waste from packaged snacks
Now we are taking another step to reduce waste even more in Marketplace 2400 by addressing disposable service items. Beginning on April 21st in celebration of Earth Month, you can choose reusable service ware and utensils at the entrée station during lunch. We'll start with just Mondays at first and then expand from Mondays through Thursdays to ensure a successful transition. We encourage you to choose the reusable entrée plate or bowl and silverware if you are dining in the marketplace or on the patio. There will be a designated drop-off area in the Marketplace for used service ware to make it easy for the 2400 Team Members to collect them at the end of lunch service.
Additionally, we will be transitioning from pc condiments to bulk condiment dispensers so you can enjoy your favorite condiments more sustainably. Salad dressings will still be available in pc packets.
We also have something exciting brewing at the drip-coffee station and in our pantries. We are introducing a Bring Your Own Travel Mug with Lid program. Get creative, have fun, and reduce your impact just by using your favorite travel mug with lid from home.
Ambassadors and 2400 Team Members will be able to answer any questions in the marketplace to help you navigate these changes.
Thank you for your passion and for helping us to take action to reduce avoidable disposable waste!
